White Tee and Denim Duo: 2023’s Uniform

What should I wear today? It’s almost all of our first thoughts as we wake up and we have 15 minutes till we have to be out the door. After trying on at least 20 different outfits we settle on one that we know will never fail us, our favorite Levis and a crisp white tee. This combo has maintained status as a universal, genderless uniform since the dawn of fashion history. It all started when the white shirt became a standard military issue in World War II which was an undergarment used by navy men in the 1910s. The white tee from became a staple in everyone’s closets. 

With the white tee and demin’s simplicity and sophistication, it serves as a blank canvas for self-expression. Its overall an  ageless look that flatters anyone that is perfect for the bodega run at 7am or a night out until midnight.   The comfort provided by a soft, well-fitting white T-shirt and a perfectly worn pair of blue jeans is unparalleledIt's a look that doesn't discriminate. The white T-shirt and blue jeans have been worn by cultural icons, from James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause to Cindy  Crawford, who has conned this look as the “model off duty” look. Karl Lagerfeld, the classiest man who was the creative director of Chanel, layered a white T-shirt underneath the iconic Chanel tweed cardigan jacket.

 Despite its classic status, this uniform has been reinvented time after time. From skinny jeans to straight legs, and graphic tees to plain white ones, personalization options abound, allowing individuals to adapt the look to their tastes and the era they live in. 

The white T-shirt and blue jeans have taken on cultural significance, representing the all-American spirit and freedom. Whether it's a symbol associated with youth and rebellion, or a symbol of an unwavering, free-spirited attitude, it remains a beloved and timeless choice that's here to stay. This look specifically speaks to me when I am rushing everyday to get to my 8am. When in doubt I always know this look will look simple yet chic. Depending on the weather I dress it up or down and help me be able to make it to class on time.
